Bon Samaritan Episcopal Church
Given our organization’s Episcopal roots and the many churches that partner with us, South Florida Haiti Project seeks to nourish spiritual life in Bondeau and help people grow in their faith. In 2015, South Florida Haiti Project completed the construction of Bon Samaritan Episcopal Church in Bondeau. Formerly known as St. Marie Madeleine Episcopal Church, the new church holds approximately 800 congregants and is the largest Episcopal Church in Haiti.
Before this church was built, services were held in a school classroom big enough for about 75 people; however, more than 350 people attend each Sunday, meaning they were forced to stand or sit outside. The congregation provided the first $2,300, a testament to their faith and vision for a church to anchor the community. With many congregants living on just a few dollars a day, this was a significant contribution.
Bon Samaritan now serves as a spiritual home for the community and an additional resource for those in need. The music director supported by South Florida Haiti Project leads the beautiful music during worship. Bon Samaritan is also a symbol of the meaningful partnership between the people of Bondeau and South Florida Haiti Project that we hope will stand for generations to come!
